At SEY, we aspire to excellence at every level. We are seeking an operations-focused Production Manager to lead our Brooklyn roasting facility. This role is the backbone of our operation—ensuring that exceptional coffee gets from origin to customer seamlessly, managing the complex choreography of production, inventory, and logistics that makes it all possible.
The Production Manager will oversee approximately 5,000 lbs of weekly coffee production, leading a team of 6-10 while maintaining industry-leading standards of quality, safety, and operational efficiency. This is an opportunity to build and refine systems that set the benchmark for specialty coffee production.
Production Management & Scheduling
Plan and execute complex production workflows and scheduling to meet demand
Oversee daily roasting operations and production processes
Monitor production capacity and optimize workflows for efficiency
Coordinate all aspects of production from green coffee to fulfillment
Implement and improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) with a focus on achieving industry-leading performance
Team Leadership & Development
Lead, develop, and retain a high-performing team of 6-10 production staff
Onboard, train, and coach team members to boost performance and encourage collaboration
Create a positive work environment founded in respect, continuous improvement, and excellence
Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing constructive feedback
Manage scheduling, time tracking, and time-off requests
Foster a culture of safety, quality, and open communication that aspires to world-class standards
Inventory & Supply Chain Management
Maintain appropriate inventory levels of all neccessary production materials
Monitor sales data and inventory pars to create strategic weekly production schedules
Coordinate all inbound and outbound freight and shipping logistics
Track inventory accuracy and implement cycle counting procedures
Serve as the point of contact for all orders and internal special requests
Safety & Quality Assurance
Maintain compliance with food safety regulations and good manufacturing practices (GMPs)
Implement and enforce safety protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Conduct regular safety audits and equipment inspections
Oversee quality control checks throughout the production process
Monitor product consistency and implement corrective actions as needed
Maintain all required production logs and documentation
Proactively identify and address safety hazards
Serve as the point of contact for food safety compliance
Drive continuous improvement toward industry-leading quality standards
Equipment & Facilities Management
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on roasting and production equipment
Work with vendors when specialized service is needed
Troubleshoot mechanical issues and diagnose complex machinery problems
Ensure all equipment is properly calibrated, clean, and functioning safely
Coordinate equipment upgrades and installations as needed
Maintain clean, organized, and efficient production environment that reflects our commitment to excellence
Data Management & Analysis
Build and maintain complex spreadsheets for production tracking, inventory management, and reporting using Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Drive)
Utilize software including Shopify, ShipStation, and Quickbooks for order fulfillment
Generate and analyze operational reports and performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities
Use data-driven insights to continuously elevate operational performance
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate effectively with sales, logistics, customer service, and other departments
Work with vendors and external partners to resolve issues and optimize operations
Communicate regularly with leadership on department vision and continuous improvements
Support visitors to the facility and represent SEY's commitment to excellence within the industry
Experience & Skills
2-5 years management experience in manufacturing, food production, or similar operations environment
3+ years experience managing complex, time-sensitive production processes
Mechanical aptitude: Proven ability to diagnose and repair complex machinery and equipment
Advanced Excel/Google Sheets proficiency: Experience building complex models, formulas, and data analysis tools
Shipping software experience: Familiarity with logistics and shipping platforms
Analytical thinking: Logical and methodical approach to problem-solving
Experience managing teams of 5+ people with demonstrated leadership abilities
Track record of driving operational improvements and elevating performance standards
Technical Knowledge
Strong aptitude for task prioritization and production scheduling
Experience with food safety compliance (GMPs, SOPs) preferred
Familiarity with inventory management systems
Basic technical aptitude and willingness to learn equipment details
Forklift certification or willingness to obtain

Physical Demands

Work Environment
Production facility with roasting equipment, varying temperatures, and high noise levels (hearing protection provided)
Fast-paced environment requiring flexibility and prioritization
Full-time availability: Sunday-Thursday, with occasional flexibility required for production needs
Collaborative team atmosphere focused on quality and continuous improvement
Base Salary: $85,000 - $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience
